Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team collected 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep against Wilmington College during the program's Senior Day on Sunday from Behrens Field. The Grizzlies won the opener 7-6 before earning a 13-5 victory in six innings in the nightcap.

Franklin (20-10) scored two runs in the sixth inning on a single by junior Baylea Suiters (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) to win the first contest. The two-out base hit scored junior Jasmine Hanna (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie) and senior Michelle Murphy (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) to give the hosts the 7-6 advantage.

Junior Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) tossed a scoreless seventh inning to secure the victory. The right-handed pitcher earned the victory, pitching 5.2 innings in relief.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock). A single by Hanna later scored Blevins.

Wilmington answered with a four-run second inning to take a 4-3 lead. Franklin regained the lead, 5-4, behind two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Senior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) legged out a triple to score Suiters. Struewing later scored on an illegal pitch during a walk to Blevins.

The Quakers squared the contest, 5-5, by pushing across a run in the third inning. Then, the visitors took a 6-5 lead with a two-out single in the sixth inning. However, Suiters delivered a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the inning for the eventual winning run.

Suiters tallied three of Franklin's 10 hits in the victory. Hanna recorded two hits, while Struewing scored two runs.

In the second game, the Grizzlies recorded 20 hits and scored a run in five of their six at bats. The team took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Leading 1-0, Struewing legged out a double to score Suiters. Blevins would score on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Morgan Burch (Coatesville, Ind./Cascade).

Franklin scored two runs in the second and added another three runs in the third inning to build an 8-1 lead. Wilmington pushed across two runs in the fourth inning. Struewing connected on a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give Franklin a 10-3 lead. The hosts scored three runs in the sixth inning to seal the victory.

Struewing went 4-for-5 with six runs batted in. Senior McKensie Vanosdol (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) collected three hits. Lalioff and Suiters each recorded three hits from the top of the batting lineup.

Sophomore Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) improved to 12-4 on the season with four strikeouts in five innings.

Franklin tallied 60 hits in the team's four games over the weekend. The Grizzlies earned a 7-1 and 11-3 sweep at Manchester University on Saturday.

Prior to Sunday's contest the athletic department honored five seniors Bri McClellan (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North), Murphy, Struewing, Vanosdol, and Hanna for their contributions to the softball program.

The team returns to action on Tuesday, April 19, at 3:30 p.m. when it hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
