RECAP | Track and Field Takes Part in Final Competition Ahead of HCAC Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin track and field teams took part in their final tune-up ahead of the conference championships on Friday (Apr. 21) night, heading west for the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet.
 
Taking on a pair of tough fields, the Griz women tied for seventh overall with 22 points while the men placed ninth at the event with 20 points.
 
Pacing the Griz women was the lone field athlete competing on Friday night in senior Taylor Tatlock. The Edinburgh, Ind.-native won the discus with a new personal best throw of 40.25m, improving upon her standing with the second-best mark in the event in school history.
 
On the track, Jill Anspaugh collected Franklin's top finish of the night with a fourth-place finish in the 3000 meter run in 11:04.66. Lex Desenberg placed sixth in the 400m in 1:05.11 and Haley Makowski matched that finish in the 800m in 2:27.99. Ella Bashor picked up points in the 3K with an eighth-place showing in 11:35.06.
 
Picking up the top finish for the Franklin men was senior Zach Roberts after he took third place in the 110 hurdles in 16.25 seconds. Roberts added a ninth-place showing in the 200m dash in 23.18. John Asplund finished fifth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:55.00 with teammate Jack Sells just behind him in seventh in 9:06.26.
 
Other point-getters included Eli Cochrane taking seventh in the 800m in 2:00.14, Drew McGaha placing seventh in the 400m in 51.81, Luke Paddock taking eighth in the 400m in 51.94 and Ezra Baker finishing sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.10m.
 
Next up for the Grizzlies are the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are set for Apr. 28-29 at Grizzly Park in Franklin.
