MARION, Ind. — Franklin track and field rounded out their regular season by competing at the Indiana Little State Championship on Friday and Saturday. Combined, the team finished 11th, scoring 30 points.

Major scorers from the meet included freshmen Joe Johnson, Khalid Amadou, Grace Tincher and Alex Mast.

Johnson got the team going on day one, winning the javelin throw by almost four meters with a toss of 60.22 meters (197 feet, 7 inches). His performance not only breaks the Franklin school record set last year by Logan McIntosh and ranks second in HCAC history, but also qualifies Johnson for the USA under-20 championships. He currently sits 21st in Division III.

Tincher had herself a busy day with the jumps. In the high jump, she cleared 1.54m (5-0.75) to snag sixth place. She then finished up with the long jump, where she leapt to first place with an outdoor best of 5.78m (18-11.5). That breaks her own school record and sets a new HCAC record. She currently sits tied for seventh in Division III.

In the 400-meter dash, Amadou ran 50.49 to take seventh place in a stacked race.

Despite the cold temperatures, Mast, who came in seeded ninth in the women's 400, claimed fourth, crossing in 59.59.

The Grizzlies track and field will travel south next weekend (April 23-25) for the HCAC Outdoor Championships at Transylvania.
