RECAP | Grizzlies Open Indoor Season on Saturday Afternoon

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Franklin track and field teams opened their indoor season on Saturday (Dec. 3) afternoon, with a select group of athletes heading to the south side of Indianapolis for the UIndy Season Opener.
 
No team scores were kept at the event, and four Grizzlies were able to bring home top-10 finishes against competition from all three NCAA divisions.
 
Junior thrower Noah Sigler's performances were the highlight of the day, as the Avon, Ind.-native won the weight throw and moved into third place on the school's indoor record list with a throw of 16.00m. Sigler would also place sixth in the shot put with a heave of 12.67m.
 
Senior Nick Patton moved into the finals against a tough field in the 60m hurdles, where he placed seventh with a time of 9.34 seconds. Patton also took part in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 25.83 seconds.
 
Also competing for the Griz men were senior Zach Roberts in the 60m (7.38) and 200m (24.35) dashes, freshman Maddix Flaugh in the 60m (7.73) and 200m (25.68) dashes and freshman Logan McIntosh in the 400 hurdles (54.92) and 200m dash (25.00).
 
Each of Franklin's women that competed recorded a top-10 finish on the day. Senior Janae Johnson advanced to the finals of the 60m hurdles where she took sixth place with a time of 10.29 seconds. Johnson would also take part in the 200m dash, clocking in at 30.90 seconds. Over in the throws, junior Ellie Lammert claimed ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.06m and added a 17th place showing in the shot put with a throw of 8.99m.
 
The Grizzlies are back on the indoor circuit on Jan. 14, when they travel to Crawfordsville, Ind. for the Wabash College Robert H. Johnson Open.
