Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College men's tennis team continued a busy weekend of competition on Saturday (Sept. 18) at Grizzly Park with non-conference matchups against Manchester and Kentucky Wesleyan.
Franklin (3-1) defended their home court in both matches, blanking Manchester 9-0 in the morning before besting Kentucky Wesleyan in the afternoon, 6-2.
In the first matchup of the day, Franklin held serve in doubles play with an 8-2 win from top team Ty McCory and Dustin Garrison and an 8-4 win from the No. 2 team of Layton Stieneker and Matt Leming.
In singles competition, McCory, Garrison, Nathan Jarboe and Gavin Parker were all straight-set winners without any player dropping more than three points in a set. Franklin picked up the final three points by default.
Against Kentucky Wesleyan, Parker and Stieneker completed a perfect day as a team with an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles play. Franklin took a one-point lead into singles play after a hard-fought 8-7 (10-2) win from Leming and Owen Pickerill at No. 3 doubles.
When the action moved to singles play, McCory claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles with Pickerill adding a 6-1, 6-2 win from the third position. Leming battled hard to win a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 win at No. 4 singles to secure victory and Parker added the exclamation point with a 7-6, 6-4 win from the fifth position.
The Grizzlies conclude their busy weekend on Sunday (Sept. 19) with another home match, taking on Ohio Northern. First serve from Grizzly Park is set for 3:30 p.m.
