Box Score ANGOLA, Ind. – The Franklin College men's tennis team got their fall schedule underway on Saturday (Sept. 11) afternoon with a trip north to face the Trine Thunder.
Five Grizzlies (0-1) made their collegiate debuts on Saturday, with two claiming victory for the Griz. The match would go to Trine, with the hosts holding serve in a 7-2 win.
The Grizzlies claimed victory in the No. 1 doubles matchup that saw FC's top team of senior Ty McCory and freshman Dustin Garrison take an 8-7 (7-2) thriller. Another freshman, Nathan Jarboe, picked up his first collegiate point with a three-set win at No. 3 singles 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Also making their career debuts on Saturday were Layton Stieneker, Owen Pickerill, and Gavin Parker. Stieneker took part in both singles and doubles play while Pickerill teamed with Matt Leming at No. 3 doubles and Parker slotted in at No. 6 singles.
Franklin is back on the court next Friday (Sept. 17) when they hit the road to take on the University of St. Francis. First serve is set for noon.
