RECAP | Strong Singles Showing Propels Grizzlies to First League Win of Spring

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Franklin College men's tennis team claimed their first league win of the spring on Saturday (Apr. 17), rallying in singles play to take a 5-4 win over Manchester.

Down by a point after doubles play, the Grizzlies (3-4, 1-2 HCAC) battled back to take four of the five singles matches to upend the Spartans (3-9, 0-3 HCAC). Franklin picked up their first victory of the day in No. 2 doubles play with Jake Zachary and Matt Leming teaming to take an 8-2 victory.

The Grizzlies would go on to sweep the 2-5 singles matches to seal the win. Zachary earned his second point of the day in the second singles position with a 6-3, 6-0 win and was followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win from the No. 3 position. Leming became the second Grizzly to earn two points on the day with his 6-3, 6-3 win from the No. 4 position and Cooper Davis closed out the win with a 6-3, 6-1 win from the fifth spot.

Franklin is back in action on Sunday (Apr. 18) with a trip to Kentucky to take on the Transylvania Pioneers in their final road match of the regular season. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
