NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Franklin men's tennis team began a month-long five-match road trip on Sunday (Mar. 8) afternoon, taking on the Manchester Spartans in the conference opener for both sides.
The Grizzlies (5-3, 1-0 HCAC) ran their winning streak to five, sweeping the Spartans (1-6, 0-1 HCAC) 9-0 to kick off Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play.
The first point of the day was claimed by Franklin's no. 3 doubles pair of Jacob Zachary and Matt Leming, who were 8-2 winners over their league counterparts. Blake Amonett and Alexander Pollard were next in with an 8-6 win from the No. 1 position while Josh Stewart and Ty McCory closed out team competition with an 8-4 victory from the second spot in the lineup.
McCory claimed the first point in singles play with his 6-1, 6-0 win from the No. 4 spot. Amonett secured the winning point from the No. 1 position, winning 6-2, 6-3. Next in was Zachary following his 6-3, 7-5 victory from the second spot in the order.
Rounding out the lineup included a three-set win from No. 5 player Leming, 6-3, 4-6, 10-3. Stewart was a 6-2, 6-4 winner from the third position in the lineup and Pollard closed out the day by winning a 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 battle between the two No. 6 players.
Franklin looks to continue their winning streak next Saturday (Mar. 14), when they travel to Oakland City, Ind. to take on both Oakland City University and Indiana-Southeast. First serve of the day is set for 10:00 a.m.
