FRANKLIN, Ind. – Making their spring home debut, the Franklin men's tennis team made it four wins in a row with an impressive 7-2 win over the Alma Scots on Saturday (Feb. 22) morning at the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
Franklin (4-3) captured a pair of doubles matches and dug in to win five singles competitions and send the Scots (3-2) home with a loss.
The Grizzlies claimed the first two points of the day thanks to a pair of 8-3 doubles wins. No. 2 pairing of Josh Stewart and Ty McCory ended first to give Franklin the lead and the No. 3 team of Jacob Zachary and Matt Leming wrapped up their win shortly after. Alma salvaged a point with an 8-7 (1-0) win at the No. 1 matchup.
Zachary earned his second point of the afternoon in dramatic fashion, picking up a 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 from the No. 2 singles position. The Grizzlies earned the final four points via straight-set victories. Stewart was a 6-2, 6-0 from the No. 3 spot, McCory claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win from the fourth position, Leming won 6-4, 7-5 from the No. 5 spot and Alexander Pollard closed things out with a 6-0, 6-1 victory from the No. 6 spot in the order.
Franklin looks to keep their winning streak alive on Sunday, Mar. 8, when they open HCAC play on the road against the Manchester Spartans. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
