CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Franklin men's tennis team made their spring debut on Saturday (Feb. 1) afternoon, picking up an 8-1 win over Wabash College to earn their first victory over their in-state for since 2003.
The Grizzlies (3-3) recorded their third straight win dating back to the fall and it started with a sweep of the Little Giants (0-3) in doubles play. Matt Leming and Jacob Zachary got the Grizzlies on the board with an 8-0 win from the third position, followed by the No. 2 pairing of Josh Stewart and Ty McCory taking an 8-3 decision. The No. 1 doubles battle was last to finish with Blake Amonett and Alexander Pollard holding on for an 8-5 win.
Three different Grizzlies rolled to 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles play with Stewart, McCory and Pollard accomplishing the feat from the No. 3, 4 and 6 spots, respectively. Zachary was a 6-1, 6-1 winner in No. 2 singles play while Leming closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 decision from the five-spot in the lineup.
The Grizzlies will have three weeks off before their next match, which takes place on Feb. 22 against the Alma Scots. Location and start time are still to be determined.
