RECAP | Grizzlies Fall to Earlham in Regular Season Finale

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Franklin College men's tennis team wrapped up their regular season on Saturday (Apr. 27) afternoon, taking on the Earlham Quakers.

The Grizzlies (7-10, 4-4 HCAC) threw everything they had at one of the top teams in the conference, but the Quakers (16-7, 7-1 HCAC) proved too strong, taking a 9-0 win. Franklin was set to face Holy Cross College of Indiana later in the day, but that match was wiped out due to rain.

The Quakers jumped out to an early lead in doubles play with quick wins from their No. 2 and No. 3 tandems. Franklin's top team of Blake Amonett and Alexander Pollard put a scare into their counterparts, but fell just short in an 8-6 defeat.

Singles play brought much of the same, with Earlham taking all six matches in straight sets.

The Grizzlies will now turn their attention to the 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament, which gets underway next Friday (May 3) at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind. Tournament pairings and start times will be announced at a later date.
