RECAP | Grizzlies Drop Hard-Fought Dual Match with Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Franklin men's tennis team continued their fall schedule with a Sunday (Sept. 23) afternoon showdown against HCAC-rival Manchester University.

The Grizzlies (1-2) were successful in singles play, taking four of the six points up for grabs. But the team fell just short in snagging that illusive fifth point, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Spartans.

After dropping all three doubles points by a combined eight points, the Grizzlies turned their attention to singles play, getting on the board thanks to a 6-4, 6-1 win from Blake Amonett at the No. 1 spot. Matt Stone collected a 6-0, 6-3 win at the four position to remain perfect in singles play in the fall.

Josh Stewart was a 6-1, 6-2 winner from the fifth spot while Matt Leming picked up a strong 6-3, 6-2 win from the No. 6 position. But the Grizzlies dropped a pair of close matches at the number two and three positions, securing a win for the host Spartans.

The Grizzlies continue their fall schedule on Saturday, Sept. 29, with a home match against another conference opponent, the Anderson Ravens. First serve from Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex is set for noon.
