RECAP | Franklin Nabs One Gold Medal, Five Podium Finishes at HCAC Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College track and field teams wrapped up day two of the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday (Apr. 28) afternoon.

The Grizzlies collected one event win, one runner up finish and a trio of third place finishes on day two of the event. Both clubs finished eighth overall with the women gathering 40 points and the men picking up 30 points.

Franklin's lone gold medalist was sophomore Clayton Brumfield, who claimed victory in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:03.74, setting a new career best and giving him three career gold medals in the 1,500 spanning the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Senior Nathan Adams capped a spectacular season with a silver medal finish in the hammer throw and a toss of 54.74 meters. It's the second runner-up finish at a conference meet for Adams this year, going along with his second-place finish in the weight throw at the indoor championships.

Senior Nick Uhl hit the podium for the Grizzlies in the hammer throw, taking third place with a personal best throw of 51.37 meters. The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Sarah Miller, Morgan Clarke, Emily Walker and Kelsey Bowling claimed a bronze medal with a time of 50.97 seconds.

Morgan Clarke also hit the podium on Saturday, taking third place in the finals of the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.31 seconds. Clarke would pick up points in the finals of the 100-meter dash, taking seventh with a time of 13.42 seconds.

Jayla Callens concluded a strong conference meet with a fifth-place finish in the finals of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.81. Bowling picked up points in three different events, taking fifth in both the finals of the 100-meter hurdles (16.24) and the long jump (4.96m). Bowling would add a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.19 meters.

Blaine Conners joined Brumfield in picking up points in the 1,500-meter run, taking seventh place with a time of 4:11.82. The men's 4x100-meter team of Logan Hale, Lamonte Richardson, Coy Flynn and Nick Uhl clocked in at 45.99 seconds, earning a sixth-place finish.

Other notable finishes for the Grizzlies included an eighth-place finish from Hunter Fields in the high jump (1.39m). Noah Dahlquist took eighth in the men's high jump (1.77m) and ninth in the javelin (45.17m). Laura Worthington took 10th in the women's hammer throw (39.77m), a finish matched by Richardson in the long jump (6.19m).

Franklin heads to Naperville, Ill. on May 10-11 for the Dr. Keeler Invite, hosted by North Central College.
