RECAP | Golds from Shaevitz, Scott, and 4x400 Give Grizzlies Highest Finish Since 2014

BEREA, KY – The Franklin men's track and field team faced off with all comers from around the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) on Friday and Saturday (Apr. 25-26) at the 2025 HCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Grizzlies came home with a fourth-place finish as a team, finishing with 77 points as a team with a whole host of Grizzlies picking up points throughout the weekend. The highest team finish since 2014.

In the field events, freshman Alex Shaevitz claimed gold in the high jump, leaping 1.93m (6'4"), good to tie for seventh all-time in school history for the event. Senior Logan McIntosh earned himself a runner up finish in the Javelin hurling it 55.59m (182'4"). with a personal best and meet record throw of 55.18m (181'0"). In the shot put, freshman Ethan Hochstetler tossed his way to a sixth place finish, 12.84m (42'1.5"). Sophomore Max Malone  hurled the discus 39.96m (131'1") to snag fifth place.
On the track, sophomore Steven Scott would strike gold, winning the 400m in a new school record time 48.55. McIntosh would come back in the 400m securing fifth place (50.32). Following McIntosh, Luke Paddock came in sixth, 50.78. Freshman Brayden Wilkins had a solid weekend, placing fourth and fifth in the 100m (11.02) and 200m (22.10), respectively. His time in the 200m is a new personal best and solidifies his spot at number seven all-time. Senior Elliott Gough battled his way to a fifth place finish in the 800m, earning a personal best 1:58.03. In the 3000m Steeple Chase, senior Trevor Newby took eighth place, 10:06.85. Freshman William Hirsch started off his conference slate, placing fourth in the 10,000m, 32:24.55. Not far behind, senior John Asplund finished sixth, 32:29.44. Hirsch would return the next day and place seventh in the 5000m, 15:18.53. In the relays, the 4x100m consisting of DJ Green, Jackson Jent, Aiden Jeffery, and Wilkins ran 44.74, to take eighth place. Rounding out the night, the 4x400m team of Scott, Paddock, Nathan Vujaklija, and McIntosh ran 3:22.13 to claim the indoor and outdoor sweep of the event.
