RECAP | Men's Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Battle with Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. – With the regular season winding down, the Franklin College men's tennis team continued their season on Wednesday (Apr. 25) night, taking on Hanover College in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) showdown.

The Grizzlies (4-11, 1-4 HCAC) and Panthers (10-10, 4-2 HCAC) engaged in a highly-competitive showdown that featured four singles matches going three sets. In the end, the Panthers were able to get the best of the Grizzlies, taking a 6-3 decision.

Franklin's top doubles tandem of Alex Hammer and Blake Amonett notched a win in their second straight match, taking an 8-4 win over Jonathan Helmers and Mitchell Minniear. It was the only point the Grizzlies managed in doubles play as Hanover took a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Sam Godby earned the Grizzlies their first point of singles play, taking a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 decision at the No. 5 singles spot. Dean Elrod would also emerge with a three-set win at the No. 6 spot, downing Minniear in a 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 thriller.

But the Grizzlies came up just short in two other three-set thrillers as Hanover rallied to take the final four singles points and wrap up the win.

Franklin gets back on the court on Saturday (Apr. 28), heading to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Mount St. Joseph University. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
