FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College track and field teams hit the road this weekend for a pair of competitions. A group of FC distance runners traveled to St. Louis on Friday (Mar. 30) night for the Washington University Invitational. On Saturday (Mar. 31), a small group of Grizzlies made the trek to Hanover, Ind. for the Hanover Invitational.
On Friday night, seven Grizzlies competed in the men's 5K race. Sophomore Clayton Brumfield led all racers with a time of 15:33.17, which ranks him sixth on the program's all-time records list. Right on his heels was fellow sophomore Blaine Conners, whose time of 15:43.35 is the eighth best in Franklin College history.
Chris Graham (16:30.35), J.T. Sargent (17.23.71), Logan Vandermark (18:06.53), Adam Rector (18:31.70) and Sean Groves (18:55.17) rounded out the times for the Grizzlies in competition.
On Saturday at Hanover, the Grizzlies got a standout performance from junior Kelsey Bowling. The
Osgood, Ind.-native started off her day with a first-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking in with a time of 17.02 seconds. Bowling would add a third-place finish in the triple jump (9.95m) and a fourth-place finish in the long jump (4.84m) to round out her day.
Senior Natahn Adams turned in another strong showing in the hammer throw, taking fifth in the event with a toss of 46.25 meters. That throw is the second-best mark in program history. Amanda McKinney rounded out the Franklin competitors, taking 25th in the discus (25.98m) and 26th in the hammer throw (31.10m).
Franklin resumes their outdoor season on Saturday, Apr. 7, when they host the Grizzly Invite at H. Dean Evans Track in Franklin. Start time is set for 11:30 a.m.
