Rain Can't Stop Track and Field from Shining at Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Franklin track and field rounded out its spring break week by competing at the Manchester Invitational. The men placed fourth out of five teams, scoring 77.5 points, while the women placed fourth out of six teams, scoring 47 points.

Starting off the day in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Zach Schroeder and senior Jonah Decker claimed second and fifth, respectively. Schroeder raced to a new personal best of 10.13.87, while Decker crossed the line in 10:38.91.

The men's 400-meter squad claimed multiple top-eight spots. Freshman Khalid Amadou (49.39) secured first overall and was followed by junior Steven Scott (51.49) in second, with frosh Austin Menefee (51.89) coming behind in third. Rounding out the scoring was frosh Blake Hughes (52.81) in seventh place.

The 4x100 relay of freshmen Logan Page, Myles Baker, Gabriel Gomes and sophomore Brayden Wilkins placed fourth (43.69) in their season debut together.

Junior Russell Bilohlavek opened his 400 hurdles career with a third-place finish in 59.09. Senior Riley Devening picked up a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 (16:25.66).

In the field events, freshman Joe Johnson got the scoring going, placing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.95 meters (19 feet, 6.25 inches). Page returned for the high jump, clearing 1.75 meters (5-8.75) to take fourth.

In the throws, Garek Ellis posted a new personal best 47.60 meters (156-2) to secure second place on his last throw. Freshman Curtis Burke finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 12.89 meters (42-3.50).

On the women's side, senior Wynn Wellington and freshman Ariana Sheckler debuted in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Wellington secured third place (12:27.84), which ranks sixth in school history. Sheckler crossed in 12:49.11 to take fifth place.

In the sprint events, frosh Alex Mast was busy, competing in both the 200 meters and 400 meters. Mast claimed silver in the 200, finishing with a 27.02. In the 400, she broke the 60-second barrier for the second time this season, going 59.48 to take first overall. 

In the field events, freshmen Alaina Kellerman and  Savanna Miley both had success in the pole vault, snagging second and third, respectively.  Kellerman cleared 3.00 meters (10-0), while Miley went over at 2.60 meters (8-6). Junior Cailyn Baechle placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 26.31 meters (86-4).

The Grizzlies will be at DePauw this coming Saturday (April 11) for the Indiana Division III Championships.
