After last weekend,
Joe Johnson was ranked 22nd nationally in the men's javelin. Twenty-two athletes qualify for the Division III Outdoor Championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Rather than overwork his throwing arm in a last-chance meet to solidify his position, the Franklin freshman gambled that his season-best mark of 61.18 meters would hold up — and it did.
Johnson claimed the 22nd and final qualifying spot in the javelin, but he is seeded just one meter back of 15th.
The HCAC champion in the event, Johnson is slated to compete at noon EDT on Saturday.
