Joe Johnson is an emerging jack of all trades for Franklin track and field — just don't call him a master of none.

The Griz freshman was selected as the HCAC Throws Athlete of the Week after a breakthrough performance in the javelin that has him right up there with the best in the country.

Competing at the Indiana Little State Championships, Johnson won the javelin by almost four meters with a toss of 60.22 meters (197 feet, 7 inches). His performance not only breaks the Franklin school record set last year by Logan McIntosh and ranks second in HCAC history, but also qualifies Johnson for the USA under-20 championships. He is currently ranked 21st nationally in Division III.

Johnson and the Grizzlies will take part in the HCAC Outdoor Championships this weekend at Transylvania.
