HILTON HEAD, S.C. – After a long trip to the east coast, the Franklin College men's tennis team opened their week-long spring break trip with a showdown against Brewton-Parker College on Saturday morning.
The Grizzlies (3-8) jumped out to the lead after doubles play, but the Barons (5-12) would fight back to take five singles matches on their way to a 6-3 win.
Franklin picked up their first point of the day when the team of Blake Amonett and Kyle Sauley fended off Travis McCaig and Caleb Bellamy for an 8-6 win at the No. 2 doubles position. Josh Stewart and Alexander Pollard would put Franklin in front with another 8-6 win, coming at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Amonett picked up his second point of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory of McCaig at the top singles position. But the rest of the singles matches went in favor of the Barons, allowing Brewton-Parker to complete the comeback.
The Grizzlies will spend the rest of the week in South Carolina before heading back home to resume Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday, Mar. 31. The Grizzlies will host Defiance at Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex with first serve set for 11:00 a.m.
