FRANKLIN – After a couple of weeks away from competition, the Franklin College men's tennis team continued their brief fall schedule on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Manchester Spartans at Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
In a highly-competitive match between a pair of conference opponents, the Grizzlies were able to come away with a 6-3 win, running their fall record to 2-1 overall.
The Grizzlies grabbed two of the three doubles matches to open up the day, starting with an 8-3 win by Alex Hammer and Blake Amonett at the top doubles spot. The Grizzlies' No. 3 tandem of Kyle Sauley and Josh Stewart had their work cut out for them, but picked up an all-important point with a 9-8 (6) win to give the Grizzlies the advantage heading into singles play.
Hammer and Amonett held court at the No. 1 & 2 singles spots, cruising to a pair of straight-set wins. Hammer was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Isaac Collis while Amonett earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Conner Eichenauer.
Sam Godby locked down the winning point with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory at the No. 4 singles spot. Dean Elrod put the finishing touches on the win with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at the No. 6 position to close out the match.
Franklin wraps up their four-match fall schedule on Sunday, Oct. 8 when they welcome Oakland City University to town. First serve from Mickel-Hoover is set for 11:00 a.m.
