Franklin, Ind. - The doubles tandem of junior Ethan Caldwell (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) and sophomore Alex Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) picked up an 8-4 triumph on the No. 1 court to highlight the Franklin College men's tennis team in a 8-1 loss to IU-Southeast on Wednesday.
The match was the fall opener for the 2015-16 season.
Senior Arjun Bhalla (Nashik Maharshtra, India) teamed with sophomore Kyle Sauley (Madison, Ind./Madison) to lose 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Hammer lost a hard-fought three-set match on the No. 2 court. He won the second set by a 6-4 score to force a deciding third-set tiebreaker. However, IU-Southeast's Bryson Mills won the tiebreaker 10-7.
Bhalla lost a second-set tiebreaker 7-4 at No. 3 singles.
Franklin will conclude its fall schedule with a home match against rival Hanover College on Tuesday, September 22, at 4;30 p.m. from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
