Men's Tennis Ends Season with Loss in HCAC Semifinals

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Franklin College men's tennis team had its successful 2015 spring season end with a 5-3 loss to Earlham College on Saturday in the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament at the West Indy Racquet Club.

Earlham, the tournament's No. 3 seed, took early momentum of the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. Franklin got its only point with an 8-1 victory by senior Robby Woehrle (Avon, Ind./Avon) and junior Arjun Bhalla (Nashik Maharashtra, India) on the No. 3 doubles court.

In singles, Woehrle dropped only one game in winning on the No. 5 court. Freshman Kyle Sauley (Madison, Ind./Madison) picked up a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the No. 6 singles position.

However, the Quakers withstood the singles rally with victories on the No. 2, 3, and 4 singles courts to clinch the match.

Franklin, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, concludes the 2015 season with a 9-6 record. The Grizzlies finished second in the league with a 7-1 conference record.

Seniors Ryan Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood), Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community), and Woehrle each concluded their four-year playing careers with the match.
