Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's tennis team improved to 4-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action with a 9-0 road win over Anderson University on Friday.
Franklin (6-5, 4-1 HCAC) won its fifth consecutive match and is tied for second place in the conference standings.
The visitors swept the three doubles matches to grab early momentum of the match. Senior Ryan Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) teamed with freshman Alex Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) to win 8-3 on the No. 1 court.
Sophomore Ethan Caldwell (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) and senior Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) dropped only two games in winning at No. 2 doubles. Snyder is the reigning HCAC Player of the Week.
Senior Robby Woehrle (Avon, Ind./Avon) and freshman Kyle Sauley (Madison, Ind./Madison) picked up an 8-3 triumph on the No. 3 doubles court.
The Grizzlies did not drop a set in winning all six singles matches. Ryan Hammer earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the top of the singles lineup. Caldwell defeated Anderson's Jacob Hopper 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Alex Hammer lost only one game on the No. 3 singles courts. Woehrle and Sauley each won at No. 5 and 6 singles respectively. Snyder rounded out the singles winners on Friday.
Franklin returns to action when it hosts rival Hanover College on Sunday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club due to projected rain.
