Men's Tennis Extends Winning Streak, Defeats Transylvania 6-3

Lexington, Ky. - The Franklin College men's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match, defeating Transylvania University 6-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Sunday afternoon.

The Grizzlies (5-5, 3-1 HCAC) earned road wins over Earlham College and Transylvania over the weekend. Franklin became the first HCAC team to defeat both schools in regular season matches in the same season. The team won 5-4 at Earlham on Saturday.

Franklin took a 2-1 lead after senior Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) teamed with sophomore Ethan Caldwell (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) to pick up an 8-4 triumph on the No. 2 doubles court. Senior Ryan Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) and freshman Alex Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) won a tiebreaker 7-5 to pick up the second doubles point on the No. 1 court.

The visitors maintained the momentum in singles, winning four of the six matches.

Caldwell won by identical 6-3 set scores at No. 2 singles. Alex Hammer won in straight sets on the No. 3 singles court. Snyder followed with a victory at No. 4 singles. He won the opening set in a tiebreaker before clinching the win with a 6-4 second set score. Woehrle rounded out the winners with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 singles.

Ryan Hammer and junior Arjun Bhalla (Nashik Maharashtra, India) each lost third-set tiebreakers at No. 1 and 6 singles respectively.

Franklin returns to action when it travels to Anderson University on Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m.
