Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's tennis team lost a hard-fought 5-4 match to Transylvania University on Friday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
The loss snapped the team's four match HCAC winning streak.
Transylvania (3-6, 3-2 HCAC) won a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles to hold a 2-1 advantage. Junior Evan Pierle (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and senior Neal Herzog (Milan, Ind./Milan) recorded an 8-5 triumph at the No. 3 doubles position.
Senior Jared Hunt (New Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community) dropped only one game in evening the match with a victory at No. 5 singles. Franklin took a 3-2 lead after junior Shaughnessy Harrigan (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) won by identical 6-1 set scores on the No. 6 court.
Transylvania earned victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to take a 4-3 advantage. Junior Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) tied the match with a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles.
The Pioneers secured the match after winning a second-set tiebreaker 7-5 score at the No. 2 court.
Franklin returns to action on Sunday, April 27 at noon when it travels to Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.
