Men's Tennis Begins Busy Final Week with Win over Manchester

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's tennis team won its fourth consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match, defeating Manchester University 9-0 on Thursday from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.

Franklin (6-4, 4-2 HCAC) quickly grabbed momentum of the match by winning on all three doubles courts. Junior Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) teamed with senior Jared Hunt (New Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community) to win 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. The junior tandem of Evan Pierle (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and Robby Woehrle (Avon, Ind./Avon) dropped only three games on the No. 3 court. Junior Ryan Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) and freshman Ethan Caldwell (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) picked up an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles.

In singles, Woehrle did not drop a game in winning on the No. 5 court. Caldwell recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 position. Hunt won his sixth singles match at the No. 6 position.

Snyder won on the No. 4 court by 6-0, 6-2 scores. Hammer defeated Manchester's Stratton Smith 7-5, 6-2 to even his singles record to 5-5. Pierle won a third-set tiebreaker 11-9 at the No. 3 position.

Franklin returns to action on Friday, April 25 at 5 p.m. when it hosts Transylvania University from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
