Season-High Hits, Strong Starting Pitching Fuel Baseball to 10-2 win over Rose-Hulman

Box Score

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College baseball team recorded a season-high 18 hits and senior Taylor Glaze (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic) tossed eight quality innings in a 10-2 win over co-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) leader Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Tuesday from John P. McDowell Field.

The Grizzlies (17-12, 8-7 HCAC) scored in six of their eight at bats, including three runs each in the first and eighth innings.

Junior Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) led the 18-hit attack, going 5-for-5 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot. The five hits were one shy of the single-game school record, set by Jesse Wilson against Augustana College in 2012.

Senior Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic) tallied three hits and drove in two runs. Junior Mitch Frey (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) had three runs batted in and recorded two hits in the victory.

Sophomore Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) and freshmen Cody Shipley (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) and Damon DeJesus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Blackhawk Christian) also recorded multiple-hit efforts.

Eight of the nine starters recorded one hit for Franklin in the contest.

The team quickly turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 first-inning lead. Windler had a run-scoring single, Shipley successfully stole home and a single from Ardizzone gave the team the lead. Franklin plated one run in the second inning and built a 7-2 advantage by the sixth inning. Frey cleared the bases with a double in the eighth inning to cap the scoring.

Tuesday's 18 hits were a season-high. The team had 17 hits in a win over Concordia-Moorhead in the season-opening Florida trip.

Glaze scattered three hits and struck out seven batters in improving to 2-1 on the season. The left hander allowed one earned run and did not walk a batter in eight innings.

Franklin returns to action on Friday, April 19 at 4 p.m. when it begins a three-game road HCAC series against Transylvania University from Lexington, Kentucky. The Grizzlies trail the Pioneers by one-half game for the fourth and final spot for the HCAC tournament. Franklin has 10 league contests remaining.
