Franklin men's golf entered day two of the HCAC Championships in a second-place tie, trailing only 17th-ranked Transylvania.
The Grizzlies weren't able to make up ground on the first-place Pioneers on Saturday at Boone's Trace, but they did enough to gain some separation from the rest of the field. A second-round team total of 295 (7 over par) enabled them to secure sole possession of the runner-up spot, 12 strokes up on Rose-Hulman and 16 ahead of Anderson.
At 604 heading into Sunday's third and final round, the Grizzlies are 27 strokes behind Transy but well positioned against everyone else.
Leading the way Saturday was sophomore
Tyler Young, who carded an even-par 72. He had three birdies on the front nine to make the turn 2 under par at 34.
Close behind at 73 were senior
Angel Soria and freshman
Hunter Riggs, with the latter shooting 34 on the back nine with three birdies.
Junior
Nick Stewart shot a 77 to round out the Griz scoring on Saturday, with freshman
Jake Garrison adding an 80.
All five Grizzlies sit between 10th and 16th on the individual leaderboard through two rounds, with Soria topping the group in a 10th-place tie (78-73—151).
The Grizzlies will tee off Sunday's final round beginning at 10:18 a.m.
