Having fared well in its last two regular-season tournaments, Franklin men's golf brought a good bit of momentum into this weekend's HCAC Championships.
On Friday, the Grizzlies kept the momentum going, finishing the first day of tourney play in a tie for second place.
Franklin posted a 21-over-par team total of 309, even with Anderson and 16 strokes back of Transylvania, the 17th-ranked team in Division III. The Grizzlies and Ravens are five shots up on fourth-place Hanover.
Freshman
Jake Garrison, the reigning HCAC Player of the Week, led the Grizzlies on Friday with a 2-over 74, good for fourth on the individual leaderboard. Garrison eagled the par-5 fourth hole and added a birdie on the par-3 17th to largely offset five scattered bogeys.
Junior
Nick Stewart and senior
Angel Soria are 13th and 16th individually with respective scores of 76 and 78.
Tyler Young and
Hunter Riggs each carded an 81 to tie one another for 23rd.
Round two will be played Saturday at Boone's Trace in Richmond, Kentucky.
