Tincher Shatters HCAC Record as Women's Track & Field Wraps Indoor Season

Franklin women's track and field finished the indoor season Saturday, traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio for the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The women claimed seventh place, scoring 40 points.

Freshman Grace Tincher had herself a day, starting by placing second in the high jump with a leap of 1.56 meters (5 feet, 1.25 inches). Tincher returned for the long jump, claiming first place with a jump of 5.88 meters (19-03.5). That mark shatters her own school, conference and championship meet records by a foot. She is currently ranked sixth among all Division III long jumpers and has qualified herself for the NCAA Championships.

At the end of the meet, Grace was presented with the HCAC Freshman of the Year and Jumper of the Year awards, voted on by the coaches.

Freshman Alaina Kellerman began the meet bouncing between high jump and pole vault. She vaulted 3.10 meters (10-2) for third place and a new school record. In the high jump, she snagged seventh, clearing 1.47 meters (4-9.75). Fellow freshman vaulter Savanna Miley came in fifth at 2.75 meters (9-0.25).

Another freshman, Alex Mast, had herself a busy day, competing in the distance medley relay, 200, 400, and 4x400m relay. In the 200, she placed ninth (27.59), taking sole possession of seventh on the school's all-time list. Her 400 time of 1:01.78 was good enough for a sixth-place finish.

The women's DMR, consisting of Fiona Sodrel, Mast, Ariana Sheckler and Wynn Wellington, came together for a third-place finish (13:33.42). That mark places them number seven in school history. That same crew returned for the 4x400 relay to secure eighth (4:38.46).

Tincher heads to Birmingham, Alabama on March 13-14 to compete in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The rest of the Grizzlies will gear up for the start of the outdoor season March 21 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
