After her first collegiate season of indoor track and field,
Grace Tincher can already claim to be an All-American.
The Franklin College freshman made her debut on the national scene a good one, placing ninth in the long jump Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
Tincher fouled on her first of three jumps before traveling 5.49 and 5.52 meters on her last two. That final jump, which translates to 18 feet, 1.5 inches, was good enough to get the Palmyra, Indiana native a second team All-America nod. She is the first Grizzly track and field All-American since Anna Murdock won an outdoor national championship in the 800-meter run in 2015.
She finishes the season already atop the Grizzlies' all-time list in the event, having leapt 19 feet, 3.5 inches at the HCAC Indoor Championships to shatter the conference record and her previous school standard by about a foot.
The Grizzlies begin the outdoor season on March 21 when they travel to Rose-Hulman for the Early Bird Invitational.
