For much of the fall season, the results hadn't quite matched the talent for a Franklin men's golf team that had taken on a very challenging schedule.
This past weekend, the Grizzlies got to see their strong play rewarded on the leaderboard, just missing out on a first-place finish at the Battle at Belterra on Saturday and Sunday. Franklin finished with a two-round total of 17 over par, one stroke behind Capital and comfortably ahead of third-place Bluffton (+41) in the eight-team field.
Senior
Nick Stewart paced the Griz lineup, finishing as the individual runner-up on the par-71 layout with a 74-70—144 (+2). He carded four birdies in each round. Also landing in the top 10 were sophomores
Jake Garrison, who tied for fourth at 75-71—146 (+4), and
Brady Coffin, who tied for seventh at 72-76—148 (+6).
Junior
Tyler Young (74-79—153) tied for 15th, while
Hunter Riggs (81-73—154) was a shot behind in a 17th-place tie. Freshman
Tim Connor Hemming (77-88—165) competed as an individual and tied for 38th.
The Griz women also competed had three players compete as individuals over the weekend. Freshman Daylin Thompson earned a top-20 finish, while classmate Grace Risley tied for 30th and soph Lydia Wright was 37th.
Both Franklin teams will return to action in the spring.
