The Franklin men's tennis team opened its fall slate Saturday and Sunday on its home courts and came away with one victory in three tries.
The Grizzlies began the season with a 6-1 loss against Trine before bouncing back hours later with a 6-1 win over Webster. A Sunday match against Adrian ended in a 7-0 defeat.
Junior
Jaden Wells was Franklin's lone winner against Trine, battling back from a set down to top Emmitt Wirth 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 at the No. 3 singles position. He helped lead the charge against Webster with two more wins, teaming with
Clark Hersam for a 6-4 victory at second doubles and again coming back from a first-set loss to prevail at third singles, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Luke Morris and
Jeremiah Hurt helped secure the doubles point against Webster with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot. In singles,
Marcus Cox claimed the point at No. 1 via medical retirement, while Hersam was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 2.
Brian Vennemann was a 7-6, 6-2 victor in the fourth spot, while
Raymond Richard cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 6 position. Webster's lone point came at fifth singles, where
Shay Kyser was edged in a third-set tiebreak.
Franklin is now off until Sept. 26, when it plays in the ITA Central Regional at Kalamazoo.
