With three points already on the board, Franklin men's tennis put its trust in
Jaden Wells to deliver, and the junior came through.
Wells' 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) triumph at third singles provided the clinching point as the Grizzlies edged visiting Alma, 4-3, in their final match of the fall season.
The Grizzlies (3-3) started off by taking the doubles point. Wells and
Clark Hersam were 6-4 winners in the No. 1 spot, while
Marcus Cox and
Shay Kyser won 6-2 at No. 2 and the No. 3 duo of
Jeremiah Hurt and
Luke Morris claimed a 6-4 victory.
Hersam then turned around and added a 6-3, 6-3 win at first singles, while Cox added a point with a 6-2, 6-3 win before Wells provided the clincher. Hurt battled his way into a third set tiebreak at sixth singles before falling 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.
"Played great doubles to start us off," Franklin coach Ryan Hammer said. "We played very well at 1 and 2 singles to get the second and third points on the board. Jaden fought really well in a very competitive match and was able to clinch the team win."
