FLORENCE, Ind. – The Franklin men's golf team closed out the 2022-23 season with a third-place finish at the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships at Belterra GC on May 5-7.
The Grizzlies tied for the best team round of the tournament on day three to finish out with a 54-hole score of 931 (312-319-300) and also had the individual with the low round of the tournament. Two players earned all-conference honors for the Grizzlies for finishing inside the top-10.
Freshman
Jacob Paine closed out a strong senior season with a seventh-place overall finish, carding a 229 (75-78-76) for the event. Fellow rookie
Braxton Christie finished with the low round out of all players competing, surging up the leaderboard in round three to tie for ninth overall with a 232 (80-83-69). Christie's round three score of 69 is a new career-best round.
Junior
Zach Ricketts earned a share of 20
th place overall with a 241 (90-78-73) followed by sophomore Tim Leonard and his 242 (80-80-82) that earned him a tie for 22
nd overall. Rounding out the Franklin lineup was senior
Carter Giggy, as he claimed a 25
th place finish with a 244 (77-84-83).
Transylvania claimed the team championship with a 906, winning by 15 shots over runner-up Rose-Hulman.
