FRANKLIN – Franklin College and Grizzly Park played host to the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Apr. 28-29, and the Franklin men's track and field team lined up against the best the league had to offer.
The Grizzlies claimed three medalist finishes over the weekend, collecting 48 points to take sixth place overall.
Senior
Chase Miles claimed the first medal of his career to open day two, winning the javelin throw with a mark of 46.44m. Franklin's second medal of the weekend came courtesy of senior
Zach Roberts, as he grabbed third place in the 110m hurdles in 16.11 seconds and he would pick up points in the 100m dash with a time of 11.20 seconds.
The final medal of the weekend came in the final event of the weekend, with the 4x400m relay team of
Luke Paddock,
Eli Cochrane,
Logan McIntosh and
Drew McGaha placing third in 3:27.34.
Other notable finishes on the track saw
John Asplund take fifth in the 10K (32:21.78), McGaha placing sixth in the 400m (50.70) and
Jack Sells finishing sixth in the 3000m steeplechase (10:14.58). In the field,
Noah Sigler took fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.27m and
Tristan Konkler finished seventh in the high jump after clearing the 1.80m bar.
Franklin is scheduled to be off until May 12, when they travel to Joliet, Ill. For the St. Francis Fighting Chance Meet.
