Franklin track and field went split squad this past weekend to kick off the last-chance phase of the season.

The sprints and throws crew went to Terre Haute, Indiana for the Sycamore Open, while distance went north to Joliet, Illinois, for the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite.

Getting the day started in Terre Haute, sophomore Brayden Wilkins ran a new personal best of 10.61 seconds in the 100-meter dash prelims to break his own school record by two tenths of a second. His mark also places him fifth in HCAC history. Wilkins returned for the 100 final, claiming fourth with a 10.72.

In the 200, Wilkins broke his own school record by one tenth of a second, going 21.41 to claim second.

In the javelin, freshman Joe Johnson finished second with a toss of 52.17 meters (171 feet, 2 inches). Sophomore Jackson Jent threw a personal best 43.13 meters (143-04) to take fifth place.

Frosh Grace Tincher returned to action in the long jump, snagging second with a jump of 5.56 meters (18-3).

The distance squad saw success at St. Francis. Senior Wynn Wellington broke the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 26-second PB, going 11:36.75. She doubled back for the 1,500-meter run, moving up to No. 7 in school history with a seven-second PB of 5:02.95.

Wilkins and Tincher will travel to Augustana College for Thursday's Midwest Twilight Qualifier in hopes of securing qualifying marks for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
