Box Score 2 CENTRAILIA, Ill. – The Franklin men's tennis team opened the spring season on Saturday (Mar. 4) with a pair of weekend matchups against Kaskaskia College and Greenville.
The Grizzlies (2-5) came away from the day with a split, besting Kaskaskia 9-0 in the morning before falling to Greenville in the afternoon 9-0.
Against Kaskaskia, the Grizzlies conceded just five points in double play to start the match.
Dustin Garrison and
Layton Stieneker teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles 8-5 and Franklin got a pair of 8-0 wins from the No. 2 team of
Lucas Densford and
Ezra Schwier and the third pairing of
Nathan Jarboe and
Owen Pickerill.
Singles action saw Jarboe win 6-4, 6-4 at the top of the lineup with Pickerill taking a 6-1, 6-1 win at the two-spot. Stieneker was a 6-3, 7-5 winner in the third position, Schwier on 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles,
Brian Vennemann won 7-6 (3), 6-2 at the fifth spot and
Shay Kyser rounded things out with a 6-4, 6-0 win in the sixth spot.
Franklin makes their spring home debut next Saturday (Mar. 11) when they host the Hanover Panthers in the first conference matchup of the year for both teams. First serve from Griz Park is set for 11:00 a.m.
