RECAP | Pitching Dominates Cardinals as Franklin Sweeps Opening Day Twin Bill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Franklin baseball team got their 2023 campaign underway on Sunday (Feb. 26) with two games against the Cardinals of Saint Mary's (Minn.) to start off their Florida trip.

The story of the day was the Franklin (2-0) pitching staff, as they kept the Cardinal (0-2) offense in check to take a pair of one-run games by scores of 3-2 and 1-0.

The opener saw Dylan Sprong go the distance in his first career start, striking out nine batters on the afternoon. Franklin got a home run from Sean Sullivan and an RBI base hit from Anthony Smith before Tysen Lipscomb drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double. 

Lipscomb had the game-winning hit in the second contest, singling in AJ Sanders for the game's lone run. Matthew Johnson (1-0) got the start and struck out six over 4.2 innings and Sam Peck picked up his first career save with 2.1 scoreless frames.
