FRANKLIN, Ind. - Select members of the Franklin track and field teams hit the trail one more time over the weekend to compete in two different last chance meets.
Six distance runners traveled to Joliet, Ill. on Friday and Saturday (May 13-14) for the St. Francis Fighting Chance Meet, while two Grizzly throwers were in action on Saturday afternoon in Ohio at the Rio Grande Last Chance Meet.
Junior Taylor Tatlock closed out the season strong, setting two new PRs at the event in Ohio. Tatlock placed first in the javelin with a career-best throw of 37.66m and claimed second in the discus with another new best mark at 39.04m. Joining her at the event was senior Zak Wiley, who came just shy of topping his career-best marks in both events. Wiley won the hammer throw with a toss of 50.68m and finished fourth in the discus after a toss of 45.82m. Also dusting off the spikes to take part in the javelin was head coach Demetrius Bailey, who posted a mark of 47.16m and a runner-up finish as an unattached competitor.
On the track in Illinois, Franklin sent three runners each to compete in the 800m and 5K races. In the women's 800m, freshman Haley Makowski hit the finish line in 2:31.53, just ahead of teammate Angelina Gregory and her time of 2:33.66. Michael Heading was the lone male competitor in the event, racking up a solid time of 1:59.70. The women's 5K saw junior Jill Anspaugh cross the line in 21:00 to finish just ahead of teammate Taylor Wooten and her mark of 21:45.20. Freshman John Asplund also took part in the race, breaking the tape in 16:26.37.
