FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Franklin College track and field teams are set to head to Defiance, Ohio on Saturday (Feb. 19) afternoon for the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Women's Outlook
Franklin's women finished just outside the top-four at last year's indoor championships, picking up four total podium finishes with two gold medals. Heading into this year's indoor championships, freshman Haley Makowski has the HCAC's top time in the 800m run at 2:29.00, a mark that she set in the final event of the regular season. Also primed for medalist finishes are a pair of hurdlers, with junior Janae Johnson and freshman Brantley Wathen ranking second and third in the conference in the 60m hurdles.
Men's Outlook
The Grizzly men are carrying momentum into the weekend after putting up a third-place finish in their final meet before the championships. Senior Zak Wiley heads up a strong group of throwers and heads into the weekend as the top seed in the weight throw after his career-best throw of 17.30m a week ago. Sophomore Noah Sigler is the number two seed in the weight throw and senior Evan Hosea will look to challenge ffor a podium finish in his final indoor championship. Also in the field, freshman Tristan Konkler is ranked sixth in the high jump and freshman Tivon Wiley ranks fourth in the pole vault heading into the weekend.
