Box Score KOKOMO, Ind. – The Franklin College baseball team looked to keep their season alive on Saturday (May 14) when they met the Engineers of Rose-Hulman in the elimination round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament.
A wild contest that featured a rain delay of nearly five hours ended in the late evening, with the Grizzlies falling to the Engineers 13-8.
How it Happened
Down by three after one inning, Franklin brought six runs across the dish in the top of the second to take their first lead of the day. Case Starkey and Colby Reed plated runs with bases loaded walks, AJ Sanders and Logan Demkovich drove in runs with sac flies and Sean Sullivan knocked in two with a triple.
But the Engineers answered with four in the second to take the lead for good. Sanders added another sac fly in the sixth and Tysen Lipscomb scored on an error in the seventh, but the Grizzlies were only able to string together three hits on the day.
Matthew Johnson (3-5) went 2.2 innings as the starter with Jackson Young and Alex Reinoehl taking the mound the rest of the way. Reinoehl's two innings of work were his 64th and final career appearance, giving him the most pitching appearances in program history.
Franklin finishes the year with a 29-13 record. After the tournament's conclusion, Nick McClanahan and Sanders were named to the all-tournament team.
