HANOVER, Ind. – The Franklin men's track and field team lined up against the best in the league on Friday and Saturday (Apr. 29-30) at the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Franklin claimed three medals and had a slew of athletes pick up points across the two-day event. The Grizzlies ended the weekend with 49 points total, good for a sixth place finish.
Senior Zak Wiley picked up two of Franklin's podium finishes over the weekend. The Mooresville, Ind.-native set new PRs on his way to a pair of silver medal finishes in both the discus (48.34m) and the hammer throw (50.82m) while also placing eighth in the javelin (39.96m). Teammate Noah Sigler earned his first career medal when he took bronze in the hammer with a toss of 49.60m. Senior Evan Hosea completed a trifecta of Grizzlies to earn points in the hammer with a throw of 44.54m and a seventh place finish.
Tristan Konkler just missed out on a podium finish in the high jump, taking fourth place with a clear of the 1.85m bar. Also grabbing a fourth-place finish was the 4x400m relay team of Michael Heading, Eli Cochrane, Luke Paddock and Drew McGaha, who hit the finish line in 3:26.15.
Also picking up points for Franklin were junior Zach Roberts in the 100m dash (6th/11.29), freshman Elliott Gough in the 1500m run (6th/4:11.45) and freshman John Asplund in both the 5K (7th/16:06.43) and 10K (8th/33:22.13).
The Grizzlies have one more date of competition on the calendar, with the team set to compete in both the Dr. Keeler Invitational and the Great Lakes Final Qualifying Meet on May 11.
