Franklin men's track and field rounded out the indoor season, traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio for the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The men claimed fifth place, scoring 45 points.
Starting the day, Sophomore
William Hirsch ran a season best of 15:39.39 in the 5,000 meters, snagging fourth place. The distance medley relay, including
Espoir Emmanuel,
Christian Powell,
Bo Lachnit and
Kai Sheley, finished sixth (11:30.88).
In the 60-meter dash, the Grizzlies saw two athletes qualify for the finals — sophomore
Brayden Wilkins (7.00) and freshman
Dyreese Elliott (7.08, personal best and tied for number three in school history). The pair returned in the finals, with Wilkins (7.05) taking sixth and Elliott (7.13) claiming seventh. Elliott and Wilkins then joined forces with juniors
Steven Scott and
Gabriel Gomes in the 4x200m relay to grab third place (1:32.04), solidifying their number two spot in school history.
Freshman
Joe Johnson qualified himself for the 60-meter hurdle finals (9.18). In the finals, Johnson hurdled to fifth place (8.97), earning a new PB and the ninth-best mark in school history.
The 400-meter crew saw three athletes score: Freshman
Khalid Amadou (51.64, PB and ninth in school history) in fourth, Scott (52.42) in sixth and frosh
Austin Menefee (52.51) in seventh.
Wilkins finished off his evening with an eighth-place finish in the 200 (23.07).
FreshmanÂ
Curtis Burke punched his way into the finals in the shot put, where he secured sixth with a toss of 13.83 meters (45 feet, 4.5 inches). In the weight throw, junior
Caleb Pipes tossed a personal best 13.89 meters (45-7), tying him for the eighth-best mark in school history.
Rounding out the meet, the 4x400m relay team of Amadou, Scott, Menefee and frosh
Blake Hughes finished in second (3:26.60), a new PB and second in school history.
The Grizzlies will take a couple of weeks off from competing to prepare for the outdoor season, which begins March 21Â in Terre Haute, Indiana.
