Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Franklin College baseball team traversed to The Show Me State on Monday (Apr. 25) afternoon for a pair of non-conference matchups against #12-ranked Webster University.
Sophomore Sean Sullivan smacked his sixth home run of the year and collected three hits on afternoon for Franklin (23-11). But the Grizzlies would drop both contests to the Gorlocks (27-5), falling 5-1 and 7-1.
Game One: #12 Webster 5 – Franklin 1
Sullivan got the Grizzlies on the board in the top of the second, sending a pitch over the center field wall for an early 1-0 lead. But the offense would generate just one hit the rest of the game and Webster would bring in runs in each of the second through fifth innings.
Matthew Johnson (3-3) went the distance on the mound, scattering eight hits and striking out five over six innings.
Game Two: #12 Webster 7 – Franklin 1
Down by a run in the fifth, Franklin drew even after a Payton Blinn leadoff double led to an AJ Sanders sac fly later in the inning to tie the game. But the Gorlocks put the game out of reach with a six-run sixth inning to halt an upset bid.
Damian Tillie (3-2) got the start for Franklin, tossing 5.1 innings of six-hit ball with two walks and three strikeouts. Sullivan went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk drawn.
