Box Score 2 GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Franklin College baseball team celebrated their senior day on Saturday afternoon against the Mount St. Joseph Lions. After the senior day ceremony concluded, two Grizzly seniors etched their names in the program record book forever.
Senior Nick McClanahan matched the single-game program record with 15 strikeouts in a 5-4 game one win. Game two saw fellow senior Logan Demkovich set the new single season program record for home runs, clubbing his 17th in a 14-4 MSJ win.
Game One: Franklin 5 – MSJ 4
Matt Earley opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, punching a single through the right side that scored Tysen Lipscomb. The Lions plated three in the second with a home run but Sean Sullivan answered with a lead-off home run in the second to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Noah Wood tied things up with a solo shot in the third and Lipscomb put the Grizzlies ahead with an RBI single in fourth. The Lions tied things up in the fifth with a lead-off home run, but Earley broke the ice with a two-out RBI single in the sixth for the eventual game-winning run.
McClanahan (5-0) was dominant over eight innings of work, allowing three hits and walking three while matching Hayden Cleveland's program record of 15 punch outs. Alex Reinoehl shut the door in the ninth to earn his sixth save of the year, moving into a tie with Jordan Clark for third all-time for saves in a year and career saves with nine.
Game Two: MSJ 14 – Franklin 4
Demkovich moved past former teammate Frank Podkul for the most homers in a season in the bottom of the fifth, sending a ball flying over the center field wall for home run number 17 on the season. AJ Sanders also homered and Wood went 3-for-4 at the plate for the FC offense.
