GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Franklin College men's track and field team matched up against the top competition from around the state on Saturday (Apr. 16) at the Indiana DIII Championships.
The Grizzlies accumulated 53 points on the afternoon to finish seventh out of the teams competing. Highlighting the afternoon was a great showing from the throwing group, with senior Zak Wiley earning the Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the event.
Wiley picked up first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.37m and took second in the discus with a new PR throw of 47.66m. He would also add a sixth place showing in the javelin with a throw of 40.46m.
Also picking up points in the throws were sophomore Dalen Williams taking fourth in the discus (44.19m), Noah Sigler placing sixth in the hammer (42.53m) and Evan Hosea finishing seventh in the hammer (42.38m). Also picking up points in the field was freshman Tivon Wiley after his seventh place showing in the pole vault.
On the track, junior Jaycee Wilburn earned a third place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.46. Eli Cochrane earned points in the same event with an eighth place finish in 2:04.43. Elliott Gough took sixth in the 1500m run, hitting the finish line in 4:10.05.
The 4x400m relay of Cochrane, Michael Heading, Luke Paddock and Drew McGaha took fourth with a time of 3:34.29. Wiley, Tristan Konkler, Jason Brown and Zach Roberts combined to finish sixth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 45.76 seconds.
The Grizzlies will have their final tune-up before the conference meet next Friday (Apr. 22) night when they compete in the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet. Competition gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
