Box Score 2 BEECH GROVE, Ind. – The Franklin College baseball team closed out their weekend series with Hope College on Saturday (Mar. 5) with a pair of contests at Beech Grove HS.
The Grizzlies (4-2) earned a split of the twin bill, taking the opener from Hope (4-1) 18-6 before the Flying Dutchmen secured a series win with a 27-7 win in game two.
Game One: Franklin 18 – Hope 6 (7 inn.)
Logan Demkovich opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the first to highlight a three-run opening frame. Noah Wood got in on the fun in the bottom of the second, roping a two-run double to make it a 5-2 game.
Wood was back at it two innings later, crushing a grand slam to blow things wide open. Wood led all players with six RBI in the contest while scoring three times. Colby Reed set a career-high with five runs scored and AJ Sanders crossed home four times in the contest.
Jackson Young (2-0) won his second start of the year, giving up four earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Chris Foote fanned three over a perfect 1.2 innings of relief.
Game Two: Hope 27 – Franklin 7 (7 inn.)
Demkovich continued his torrid weekend at the plate with a second inning grand slam and a fourth inning RBI double. But Hope pounced on Grizzly pitching from the jump, scoring three in the first and eight in the second to take a lead they'd never lose.
Demkovich went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the second game. Pinch hitter Adam Taylor ripped a two-run double late in the game for his first career RBI.
