Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Franklin College baseball team wrapped up a four-game spring break swing on Wednesday (Mar. 30) morning, facing off with the Williams College Ephs in a rematch of their Florida opener.
The Grizzlies (15-5) blew things open early before the offense dried up. That allowed the Purple Cows (3-8) to claw back within a run late but the Grizzlies would hang on to win 7-6.
How it Happened
Franklin struck in their first trip to the plate with Matthew Early knocking in the game's first run with a one-out single. One inning later, the Grizzlies unleashed a flurry of offense on the Ephs with a six-run frame to put them in the driver's seat. AJ Sanders, Logan Demkovich, Earley, Sean Sullivan and Andrew Wallace all knocked in runs with singles and Sullivan added to the lead by swiping home to close out the scoring and make it a 7-0 game.
But Franklin would manage just three hits over the final seven innings and the Purple Cows climbed back into the game with runs in the fifth through eighth innings. However, senior closer Alex Reinoehl would slam the door shut in the ninth to finish off the win and earn his fourth save of the year.
Matthew Johnson (3-1) won his third straight decision, allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts over six innings. Sanders, Earley, Wallace and Tysen Lipscomb all had two hits for the Grizzlies in the game.
